Beaver City is a city in Furnas County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 641 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Furnas County[3].

Beaver City is located at (40.136733, -99.829145)[4].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.0 square mile (2.6 km2), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 641 people, 281 households, and 168 families residing in the city. The population density was 669.6 people per square mile (257.8/km²). There were 348 housing units at an average density of 363.5 per square mile (140.0/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 97.97% White, 0.31% African American, 0.31% Native American, 0.31% from other races, and 1.09% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.87% of the population.

There were 281 households out of which 25.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.7% were married couples living together, 5.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 39.9% were non-families. 38.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 25.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.16 and the average family size was 2.81.

In the city the population was spread out with 23.2% under the age of 18, 4.2% from 18 to 24, 20.1% from 25 to 44, 21.8% from 45 to 64, and 30.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 46 years. For every 100 females there were 80.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 78.3 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $27,443, and the median income for a family was $38,594. Males had a median income of $25,234 versus $16,944 for females. The per capita income for the city was $17,701. About 9.0% of families and 14.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 23.8% of those under age 18 and 12.2% of those age 65 or over.
